It's my favorite time of the year again, and nothing would make it more special and complete than a trip to Remlinger Farms. It was the most beautiful day in the world and was filled with field frolicking, corn maze maneuvering, and apple cider drinking. And of course, we found the perfect pumpkins.

Color of Love

For Labor Day Benjamin and I jumped on his motorcycle and bounded for the wonderful land of Olympia. Olympia is the home of the great Olympia beer and is also where Courtney Love (love her or loathe her) went to school. We had never really explored this area before so we decided to make a weekend of it. We spent our time running in and out of antique shops, eating, and visiting a local home that was built in 1860. All in all, it was a lovely weekend. This was one of only two photographs I have of that particular adventure. I simply adore the colors of the aged glass and think that this window contains the perfect palette for my autumn ensembles. Thanks for the good times Olympia!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Ghost Gallery which happened to be featuring a petit art exhibit. There were miniature paintings, photographs and shadow boxes and as you can imagine, I was in mini heaven! I unfortunately couldn't afford to purchase one of the original pieces (though they were very modestly priced) so instead I bought a classic. I have no idea who painted this piece of the virgin and her son, but I know it's old and famous. This reproduction is only 1 3/8" x 1 7/8" making it a perfect addition to my miniature art collection.

I just caught a glimpse of Oscar de la Renta's resort collection for 2011 and here's what inspired me:

I absolutely adore the first look and I love the cropped jackets and little hats. These pieces definitely have a vintage feel to them while still maintaining a modern spirit.

Today I took a bus to Ballard to explore all of its little nooks and crannies. I came across this store and was thoroughly impressed by their window display. It was odd, old, simple and I adored it! Unfortunately the store was closed so I couldn't get a taste of what was inside. If the display is any indication, I'm sure the store is fabulous.

Pleasantly Surprised

My lovable but naughty kitties have done quite a number on our furniture. Our antique couch and armchair literally have stuffing falling out of them as we speak. I had an upholsterer come to our house to give us an estimate on how much it would cost to reupholster them, and I about died from shock at the price. That being said, I'm exploring some other options. Just for the heck of it I visited Urban Outfitters' website to see what they had in the way of furniture and I must say I was charmed. I'm not sure about the quality of their goods but they definitely had the aesthetic that I'm going for at about 1/16 of the cost of Anthropologie. Here are some of my favorites:

Today has been one of those perfect autumn days. The temperature is a pleasant 65 degrees, the wind is blustering and big, fluffy white clouds are moving swiftly across a bright blue sky. I love these sort of days! After running a few errands I arrived home, and wouldn't you know it, there was a kitty to greet me as I opened the door. Life is good!

Recently my mother sent me a package containing two lovely, little vintage aprons and this:

It was just so perfect and wonderful that I just about died. This satchel belonged to my Great Grandma Coyle, whom I don't remember ever actually meeting. She obviously had wonderful taste!

The bead work is impeccable and I can only imagine how long it must have taken to hand sew each tiny, individual bead.

The inside lining is wonderfully silky and has but one little stain. I think that makes it even more enchanting. Did my Great Grandma Coyle spill coffee or tea on her bag as she dined with her friends or family??? It's so fun to imagine!

This train is bound for glory.

Adventures in Pioneer Square

Today my lovely friend Kelly and I hopped on a bus with plans to explore the historic Pioneer Square. We met my fabulous husband Benjamin for lunch, who then gave us a tour of his new place of employment. We stumbled upon a wonderful shop that unfortunately was going out of business. The owner was so kind and charming, we were sad to see that his store was no longer going to be there. The up side to that was the fact that everything i the store was 70% off! We were lucky, little gals today. What fun!

I just had to take a picture of this gorgeous, ivy covered building. I wish that this building housed my boutique and sewing workshop. Leah's little altier!

Here Benjamin and I are posing for the camera. I'm doing something weird which doesn't really surprise me. It's my thing!

This is a photograph of what Benjamin's office looked like back in olden times. Those large, dark objects in the doorway are bear pelts.

This is what Benjamin's office building looks like now. The stairs are so old and beautiful! I was really impressed with what I saw. I wished I worked there!

I just loved everything about this structure. Arched windows, ivy, a giant smokestack! I just can't handle it!

I bought this lovely frame from the gentlemen whose store was going out of business. I later found this antique bird card at another boutique that fit just perfectly inside.

I just can't resist old matches so I simply had to have these to add to my collection. I'm going to give the one that says "Austin's" to my friend whose name is Austin. He can use them to light his pipe!

I've been wanting a scale for some time now and this one was just perfect! It was brought here all the way from India and I love it so much!

Georgetown Flea Market Fun Time!

Yesterday afternoon Benjamin and I took a motorcycle ride down to Georgetown to check out the weekly farmer's market. But wouldn't you know it, there was a flea market going on there as well! I was overflowing with happiness at the sight of old brick-a-brack strewn about here, there, and everywhere.

That last photo was taken at a nearby antique shop. I'm pretty sure that creepy hobo doll is haunted. I swear I heard him say "What'ya think you're doin' lady?!?!". I may or may not have made up that last part. Anyways, here are a few of the lovely little trinkets that I picked up at the market:

This book dates back to 1902! I've already started reading it and it's just as sweet as can be. I want to be Dorothy Darling.

I have this thing for windmills. I think it's because of where windmills come from and are still used. I've always been fascinated by Denmark and hope to visit there one day.

My mother used to walk around her garden with me and teach me the names of the various flowers. As an adult, I'm surprised by how much of that information I've retained but it never hurts to learn more. That's why I picked up this adorable book. Now I'll be able to identify every flower in the universe! Well, at least in the country.

While traipsing around the library yesterday I very luckily discovered the most amazing book. It is titled "The Houses of Greenwich Village" and it is my newest obsession. I've been dreaming about living in New York City with my husband Benjamin for quite some time now, and having found this book, I want this to happen sooner than later. Alas I will have to be patient and wait until I have successfully completed school and have been accepted as a contender on Project Runway. (Here's hopin!)

A silly thing happened when riding the bus today; I looked out the window and to my utter surprise I saw an old friend whom I haven't talked to in years. I waved at him spastically and he motioned for me to get out of the bus. I ran to him and when we met in the middle of the crosswalk, we both realized that we didn't know each other. He thought I was an old flame from his past, and I thought he was an old friend from Bellingham. We had a good laugh about the whole situation and because I got off at the wrong stop, I found the most enchanting store ever. I forget the name but the store's owner is Marianne and she is a beautiful and wonderful soul. Long live serendipity! This was one of my purchases:

Marianne mentioned that she used that tray to serve many a drink at many a party. I'm glad it's been so loved and now I get to look at it every morning when I wake up!

I love, love, love the summertime in Seattle! On Saturday I threw on my bathing suit, jumped on my bike, and rode to Volunteer Park to bask in the glorious sun. I watched a performance of Shakespeare in the Park, took pictures of flowers and coy fish, and rode lazily home down bumpy old streets lined with huge, historic houses. It was a good day.

What a beautiful gift I have received from my even more beautiful friend Andrew yet again. He seems to always know exactly what I like, and this little gem is no exception. The book comes from The Little Leather Library Collection based out of New York and was published in 1921. I haven't actually read the book yet, nor do I have any idea what it's about, but it sure is cute! It is a mere 2 inches by 4 inches and it is a wonderful addition to my miniature collection. The last yard sale I went to was an absolute gold mine in the eyes of this vintage addict. I walked away with so many "new" garments that I felt a little guilty for being so lucky. Coincidentally, two of my most prized purchases happen to be dainty and delicate white dresses. I'm literally obsessed with them and it takes everything within my power to abstain from wearing them every day for the rest of the summer.

I just bought this amazing vintage linen dress at yet another yard sale on Sunday. The pictures didn't come out as well as I would have liked but I take all of my pictures by myself using a tripod. I really try my best but sometimes I have to run so fast into the shot that the details are sometimes lost. The crochet work on this dress is immaculate. The back is my favorite because there are white buttons going down the center which unfortunately you can't see here. I wore this frock yesterday and it was perfect for the hot weather. It was short, light, and breezy and I loved prancing around in it.

My sidewalk sale was a mild success as I was competing with the Seattle Block Party which drew my potential customers to its crowded, musical streets. I did end up parting with enough of my vintage wares though to feel that it was worth while. I then promptly took my hard earned money (not really hard earned at all) and spent it at another lovely lady's yard sale. I am totally addicted!!! This is what I came home with:

I bought this beautiful vintage picture frame and it is just perfect for displaying this wedding photograph of Benjamin and I. I love how it came out all fuzzy and soft because that's exactly how I felt inside that day.

I instantly fell in love with this bag and it is positively perfect for hauling my books, patterns, and sewing notions to school come fall.

These are my dream plates from heaven! Unfortunately there are only four of them which doesn't quite make a complete set, but I still had to have them. I love them so!

Sidewalk Sale!

Today was absolutely gorgeous and perfect for a sidewalk sale. I'm trying to sell as much of my Etsy store goodies before I start my rigorous Apparel Design program which will not allow me enough time to do much else but sew. I had the pleasure of being accompanied by the amazing and wonderful Banjo the Dog. Together we sold clothes, met new people and basked in the gloriousness of the day. Goodness me! It has been such a long time since I've posted anything on this blog. It's just been so beautiful here in Seattle and I've been trying hard to take advantage of the outdoors, hence the lack of blogging. One of my very most favorite things about summer time is yard sales. They're everywhere! I recently went to one and here are the various treasures I acquired:

Children's books, ribbons, and gloves. Oh my!!!

What can be done with these ribbons? The possibilities are endless!!!

These vintage leather gloves are perfect for riding my motorcycle in style.

There's just something about old children's books that I love. The colors, the pictures, the smell!

One of the best things about shopping at Anthropologie is scavenging through their much more affordable clearance section. And one of the best things about their clearance section is the amazing assortment of picture books you can find. My new favorite book of photographs is entitled "Flea Market Style" by Chalmers & Hanan. It seems that most of the photos come from European homes which makes me want to pack my bags, grab my husband and cats, and move there forever and ever. SCCC Apparel Design Program Final Show- 2010

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the final line show at Seattle Central created by the Apparel Design program's graduates. This is the program that I will be starting in the fall and I can not believe that someday I too will be able to design and execute such remarkable clothing. The show was inspirational to say the least and I am so excited to get started! Here are some of my favorite pieces from the evening....

I'm back from my 2nd Anniversary surprise getaway and boy did I have a good time! The weekend started with a camping adventure at Icecicle Creek near Leavenworth, WA. The mountains were absolutely breathtaking and the Wenatchee River was roaring up a storm with huge rapids. We camped there for two nights and roasted marshmallows, drank wine and talked and talked. It was magical.

While we were there we drove into the Bavarian themed town of Leavenworth. All of the buildings in the village are reminiscent of traditional Bavarian architecture and there is more beer and sausage than one knows what to do with! Being vegetarian, I opted for less German-like fare.

Next came a huge surprise. My husband had booked us a suite at the Anna Pension Hotel and it was filled with amazingly beautiful antique furniture. There were two suites that were located inside of a chapel that was built in 1892. We didn't stay in either of those rooms but we got to take a tour of them. The room we did stay in was perfect and when I walked in there was a gorgeous bouquet of roses and a bottle of sparkling wine to greet me. Benjamin did a good job!

No getaway would be complete without a trip to the local antique stores. The ones in Leavenworth were mediocre at best but I still managed to get a really old chalk board and a dainty little handkerchief. We also went for a long walk along the river and saw the most beautiful wildflowers everywhere. Towards the end of the evening I came across an old fruit warehouse and I just loved the vintage font that read "Pears" painted a crossed it.

To end our perfect adventure, we popped into the Reptile Zoo in Monroe to feast our eyes on the 10 most deadliest snakes, alligators, turtles, spiders and more! There I saw the most incredible thing ever..... a two headed turtle! It was the greatest weekend of my life.

I'm off to my surprise adventure!!!

For the next four days my husband Benjamin and I will be celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary. I am so incredibly excited because I have no idea where we are going or what he has planned for us. I love surprises!!! I do know that we will be camping tonight but beyond that I haven't a clue. I will be sure to come back on Tuesday with stories and pictures. Until then have a wonderful weekend!

Just when I thought it was summer in Seattle, my hopes and dreams of frolicking around in pretty sundresses and having picnics in the park were shattered. We have had, excuse my French, the crappiest spring ever!!! I have lived here for 10 years and I have never seen anything quite like it. I simply can't get enough of this wonderful lady! I love every little thing about her. Her bouncy rag curls, her impeccable taste in clothes, her home decor, etc. etc. I especially love what's she's done with this gorgeous, pink blouse. She managed to create three completely different ensembles using that blouse and her imagination and the results were nothing less than amazing!

A night at the ballet.

On Friday night my handsome and amazing husband had a surprise for me. I knew nothing about where we were going or what we'd been doing but I was told to get all dolled up. This excited me to no end as getting dressed up is quite possibly one of my favorite things to do. When the cab asked "Where to?" and Benjamin answered "Seattle Center." I immediately knew we were going to the ballet! The ballet being performed was Coppelia and it was as humorous as it was beautiful. What made it even more special for me was the fact that my Sewing Construction teacher from my school actually had a hand in creating the gorgeous costumes for the show. One day she actually brought a few pieces from the show to class and we were able to view them up close and touch them! You would not believe the amount of work and detail that goes into the corsets, skirts, and head pieces. It is truly amazing to see. It was indeed a good night!

It's that time of the year again, or at least it will be very soon....bathing suit season. I always find it very difficult to find a bathing suit that I am happy with. When I buy a vintage suit it always fits weird and when I buy a new suit they always seem so cheaply made and don't express my individual style. What is a girl to do? I was thinking about making one and that is something I will start looking into a little more seriously. I shouldn't be complaining though. At least I don't have to where a full body wool bathing suit like they did in the 20's.

I am happy to announce that I have successfully earned my motorcycle license and I am ready to ride! I went to Volunteer Park and rode in circles around the lovely water tower to get a little practice. I got my little Harold (that's my motorcycle's name) into third gear. I had so much fun and I can't wait to hit the road again today!

So as I mentioned yesterday, I started sewing a dress from a vintage Vogue pattern that I had found. I made it my goal to finish it in time to post pictures of me wearing it today. And guess what? I finished it! The fit is a little strange but overall I think it came out pretty well. Here is the dress styled three different ways:

Finally! A runway show that actually puts emphasis on femininity!!! It's been so long since I've seen something so right and so beautiful walk down a cat walk. It seems to me that designers are so busy trying to push the envelope that they've stopped trying to make clothes that celebrate the female mystique. Hooray for Dennis Basso and his gorgeous color palette, delicate lace details, and gorgeous cuts. Now if only I had thousands and thousands of dollars......
